PhD Student, FCT fellow
Isa Teixeira is a PhD student in Molecular Biosciences at ITQB NOVA (Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier) and was awarded a doctoral fellowship by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) in 2026. Her PhD research focuses on the production of recombinant proteins associated with anti-tuberculosis drug resistance and their structural and functional characterization. This research is being conducted through a collaborative project between ITQB NOVA, the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), and IPLuso – Polytechnic Institute for Lusophony. Her doctoral work is supervised by Professor Margarida Archer (ITQB NOVA), Professor Rita Macedo (INSA), and Professor Bruno L. Victor (IPLuso). Isa holds a BSc in Biochemistry from NOVA School of Science and Technology and an MSc in Biochemistry for Health jointly awarded by NOVA School of Science and Technology, NOVA Medical School, and ITQB NOVA. Her master's thesis was carried out at the Plant Cell Biology Laboratory of ITQB NOVA and focused on the production of a sweet protein using plant cell cultures and Arctic marine bacterial systems. Part of this research was conducted abroad at the Faculty of Science and Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø, where she worked with Arctic marine bacterial systems. Her research interests focus on the structure and function of proteins, particularly in the areas of recombinant protein production, protein characterization, and their applications in biomedical research.
